Complaints
The Legal Services Society (LSS) investigates all complaints it receives. The following are guidelines for making a complaint.
Complaints about legal aid clients
If you believe that someone you know is incorrectly receiving legal aid, please submit your concerns in writing to LSS. LSS takes each complaint seriously and conducts an investigation to determine its validity. However, for confidentiality reasons, LSS cannot report the results of the investigation to the person making the complaint.
Complaints about lawyers
LSS also investigates complaints about private bar lawyers who have been retained by the society to represent individuals. To make a complaint about a lawyer, submit it in writing to LSS for review and follow-up.
People may also wish to make a complaint about a lawyer to the Law Society of British Columbia. The Law Society sets and enforces educational, ethical, and professional conduct standards for lawyers in BC.
