How to find Provincial Court duty counsel
You can make an appointment to see family duty counsel in Port Coquitlam, Surrey, and Vancouver, and an appointment to see a family advice lawyer at the Justice Access Centre in Nanaimo. At other locations, family duty counsel is a drop-in service. People are helped on a first come, first served basis. Note that the lawyers must first help people who have matters in court that day, but can assist others once they are not needed in court. You may want to check out the schedule of Supreme Court family duty counsel in your community as well - they can also give advice to Provincial Court clients before their court dates.
Family duty counsel offices are available in the Provincial Court locations listed below in alphabetical order. Click on the location nearest you to find the court's address, phone number, and hours. Or call the legal aid office nearest you and ask when duty counsel will be at your local court.
If your community is not on the list, call your local court registry to see if they have started family duty counsel services. To find your local court registry, look in the blue pages of your phone book under "Government of British Columbia — Court Services."
