Office of Auditor General Report

Today, the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) released its report Ensuring Quality of Legal Aid Representation Services

The performance audit was conducted between April 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, and concluded that although Legal Aid BC (LABC) had taken steps over the last few years to enhance the client experience, there were aspects of the business that could benefit from further improvement.

Legal Aid BC’s CEO Wendy Jackson accepted all of the recommendations outlined in the report.

I’d like to extend my thanks to the OAG for their engagement and collaboration to support our ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality legal services to people living in this province. We remain committed to working with our partners to implement the identified improvements.”

The objective of the audit was to determine whether the organization ensured eligible people living in British Columbia received timely and high-quality legal representation advice and whether LABC had the processes in place to provide it.

The OAG is non-partisan and conducts routine independent audits advising on how well the government is managing its responsibilities and resources.
