Legal Aid BC (LABC) adopted the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2018 to guide decision making and service delivery at all levels of the organization. The plan demonstrated LABC’s commitment to improving access to justice for Indigenous peoples living in British Columbia, and to being a leader in the journey to Reconciliation in Canada. Key features of advancing commitment were to ensure that legal aid services better meet the needs of Indigenous peoples in our province under the three pillars of Education, Equity, and Empowerment.
Moving forward
Building on the 20 actions outlined in the RAP, we have updated our strategy in the Truth and Reconciliation Impact Plan (TRIP). The 11 prioritized actions set out in the TRIP continue to be organized into the key goal areas of Education, Equity, Empowerment. At its centre, the TRIP highlights the vital role relationships have in LABC’s Reconciliation journey. It is through building and supporting those key relationships that we will be able to make progress towards Truth and Reconciliation and positively impact the clients we serve and the Indigenous justice partners we work with.
