Representing Yourself in a Criminal Trial
The content and design changes we made to this booklet are a result of usability testing we conducted with criminal law clients. The changes help to make the booklet more accessible to these clients, some of whom are people with low literacy.
New features of the booklet include:
- an LSS publications flow chart showing the information and resources an accused can get at the different stages of their court process, from a criminal charge to the trial
- a glossary to introduce readers to unfamiliar legal terms
- cross-references to help readers navigate through the material
The booklet is intended for an accused person who pleads not guilty to a summary offence and may help those who decide to represent themselves in court. It’s available on the LSS website.
