Legal Aid BC announces new CEO

Legal Aid BC (LABC) announced today that Wendy Jackson has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective February 3, 2025.

Jackson is a lawyer and currently the Executive Director of the Legal Access Policy Division in the Justice Services Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General. Jackson has worked in the legal aid portfolio since 2004, providing both legal and policy advice to government decision makers. Since taking on the Executive Director role in 2020, Jackson has overseen policy and funding enhancements that have resulted in significant increases in services for legal aid clients as well as improvements for the legal aid bar.

LABC’s Board of Directors made the appointment following a competitive national search.

Wendy’s proven experience working with government and other service providers to advance access to justice for some of our province’s most vulnerable people will be a great asset to LABC,” said Allan Seckel, KC, Chair of LABC’s Board of Directors.

In her new role, Jackson will lead LABC on its mission to strengthen client-centered legal help for British Columbians experiencing barriers accessing the legal system. She will guide engagement with partners in the legal system and other service providers to help optimize operations and service delivery across the province.

Wendy’s collaborative approach will be critical to LABC’s ongoing commitment to deliver services that meet the complex legal needs of our clients,” said Seckel.

Jackson holds a BA from Trent University and an LLB from University of Victoria. She was called to the bar in 2001 after articling with the Ministry of the Attorney General.
