Legal aid contract commitment

Note: Each event has its own eligibility criteria and contract commitment. See the table above for details.

  • For courses that support a specific area of law, at least three contracts within that area must be accepted over the next 12 months.
  • For cultural competency or general skills courses, at least three contracts must be accepted (across any area) over the next 12 months.

Duty Counsel: The contract commitment can be met through 12 duty counsel shifts, or a combination of duty counsel shifts and standard tariff contracts. Eg:

  • Four (4) duty counsel shifts two (2) standard contracts
  • Eight (8) duty counsel shifts and one (1) standard contract

*four (4) duty counsel shifts equate to one (1) standard contract

New legal aid lawyers who do not meet the minimum requirement of three (3) contracts should contact lawyers.resources@legalaid.bc.ca
