Legal research memos available

Legal Aid BC has an arrangement with Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) to provide BC’s legal aid lawyers with legal research memoranda from LAO.
Magnifying glass

The memos are intended to help lawyers prepare cases for legal aid clients. They’re organized by area of law (Aboriginal, criminal, family, immigration, and refugee), cover a range of topics, and are regularly updated. They aren’t intended to replace your own research.

How to make a request:

  • Log in to the Lawyer Portal.

  • In the Resources & News section, select the Legal Research Memoranda category. Here you’ll find the LAO LAW catalogue of memos and the form you can use to request a copy from us.

  • Fill out the request form and email it to Lawyers.Resources@legalaid.bc.ca.

Please note:

  • You will receive your memos by email.

  • Copies are not available by regular mail or fax.

  • There is a limit of two memos per legal aid contract.

Please email Lawyer Resources if you have any questions.
