As you may know, since April 2021, the BC Provincial Court has implemented a modified process for weekday (daytime) virtual bail in other regions. That implementation has now been completed in the North, Interior and Island regions (see Crim 14 for an overview of the changes adopted in these regions).
In 2023, the court plans to implement changes to virtual bail in the Vancouver and Fraser regions. This includes both adding a new evening bail program for the Fraser Region, as well as a modified process for weekday (daytime) bail in all courts in the Vancouver and Fraser regions. Planning meetings will begin in the coming weeks and will include defence bar representatives. There will also be regional consultation meetings to invite broader defence bar input and answer questions. Stay tuned for further announcements soon.
