Disclosing your clients’ finances

Reminder sticky note

A friendly reminder that, as a tariff lawyer, you have a duty to immediately notify LABC if any of the following situations occur:

1. A client’s financial situation improves.

2. A client fails to disclose assets or income to LABC.

3. A client has or will receive a settlement or monetary judgement or an award of costs.

These obligations are outlined in your client’s approval letter. It’s good practice for you to remind your clients of these obligations.

You also have a duty to protect the fees owed to LABC if funds are received in trust from a settlement or judgment, or a cost award.
