Do you know about the resources available to you on the Lawyer Portal? If you have questions for LABC, you’ll likely find answers under the portal’s Resources & News tab. We encourage you to review this section to locate helpful resources. Here’s a brief overview of the available material and where to find it:
Resources section
This is the default section when you look under the Resources & News tab. It includes documents and links to assist you in your work. This section is broken down into the following tabs to help you find specific resources.
- General: This tab is full of information — both general and area-of-law specific. You’ll find resources for clients, duty counsel, and for new or experienced lawyers. There is a lot of information in this section, and we encourage you to review it. The most valuable documents for you will vary based on your area of law, experience level, and practice. To give you an idea, a few highlights include Contacts for lawyers, TLABC list servers, retainer agreements, and immigration consequences at sentencing.
- Tariff Guide & Other Policies: This tab provides links to our tariff guides and other helpful information available on the LABC website.
- Legal Research Memoranda: LABC provides legal aid lawyers with Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) Law legal research memoranda. This page includes links to the catalogue and the request form.
- Training: This section is full of resources for working with LABC. It includes FAQs, guides, and a variety of videos to show you how to navigate the portal.
- Forms: This section is primarily fillable forms and guidelines for those forms. Many of you will be familiar with this section as it holds the EFS opinion letter, ECS checklist, and CCM questionnaire. It’s also where you can find the transcript order form and other forms.
- Experts: The is our experts’ database. When an expert is interested in working with LABC, we verify that they will accept our rates and add them to the database. If you are having difficulty finding an expert to work at LABC’s rates, please consult the database. If you have any questions about the experts’ database or need assistance with an expert request, please email Case Management.
