Court Services Branch recently announced inclusive language changes related to how we address court clerks and deputy sheriffs. The change is consistent with prior practice directions from B.C. Provincial Court, B.C. Supreme Court, and B.C. Court of Appeal to the professions and public on how individuals can advise the court of their pronouns and form of address.
To support legal professionals in their use of inclusive language, the Law Society of BC has recently developed a new practice resource. The inclusive language guide can be read and downloaded on the Law Society’s Practice Resources webpage.
