How to apply for a review of a legal aid refusal

If an intake legal assistant tells you that you’re not financially eligible for legal aid or that your case isn’t covered by legal aid, you may be able to request a review of this decision.

The intake legal assistant who refused your application will provide you with a Legal Aid Representation Services — Refused” form. This form will indicate whether a review is available to you.

Requests for reviews must:

  • be in writing,
  • set out your reasons for disagreeing with the decision, and
  • include copies of supporting documentation.

Legal Aid BC does not consider any requests received after 30 days from the date of the intake legal assistant’s decision.

The decision may take up to three weeks. You will be notified by mail.
