Many of you are familiar with the notes section on Legal Aid BC (LABC) invoices. When you bill LABC, you see “Invoice notes – for your reference only” along with the standard note advising that while your notes are visible to us, we do not routinely review them.
However, if your invoice is marked for review, we’ll review those notes as well as any attachments and other information on the invoice. If you find yourself in an unusual billing situation, it could benefit you to provide clarifying notes in this section. This can improve processing times and reduce the need for additional communication with us. We especially encourage this if you’ve received specific directions to bill something unusually.
We kindly remind you that invoices cannot be changed after submission. This section will not be reviewed unless your invoice is flagged for manual review. Please do not submit any requests for additional hours or tariff items in the notes section of the invoice. You’ll need to submit an authorization request via the Lawyer Portal for these types of requests.
