Pre-trial conferences (PTCs) are billable once per information, even if there are multiple attendances.
The PTC fee is intended to compensate for the preparation done and communications with Crown counsel required at this stage of the case. The fee is the same when the PTC is completed with one appearance or multiple appearances.
This billing rule for PTCs was established in consultation with the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers, the Criminal Defence Advocacy Society and the courts. If at the end of the case the hours worked on this contract were not adequately compensated by the available tariff block fees, please submit an extra fees request with time sheets recording both preparation and attendance. Be sure to include a brief explanation of why the time was required in the circumstances of the case.
