Legal Aid BC (LABC) is undertaking a project to develop a Lawyer Quality Assurance (QA) Framework for contracted legal aid representation services. This work follows a recommendation from the Office of the Auditor General of BC arising from its audit of LABC for the period April 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024.
Project timeline
Phase 1 (October 2025 – March 2026)
- development of a draft QA framework, including proposed quality standards and monitoring mechanisms
- implementation: anticipated to begin in 2026/27
Opportunities to provide input
LABC is seeking input from private bar lawyers through two engagement streams:
1. Brief Anonymous Survey
Deadline: January 17, 2026
2. Discussion Paper and Call for Submissions
LABC has prepared a short discussion paper outlining the objectives of the QA Framework project for anyone who has completed the survey but wishes to provide more in-depth comments.
