To initiate a legal aid application on behalf of your client, please see the following instructions and complete the applicable form.
- Advocate-initiated legal aid application instructions (PDF)
- Legal aid application forms (fillable PDFs):
Legal Aid BC accepts email applications from advocates only. Clients should not submit their own applications.
Clients can choose to communicate with LABC directly to discuss their case or they can authorize the advocate to talk to LABC on their behalf. If your client wants to authorize LABC to share information about their application with their advocate, they need to complete, sign, and submit this authorization form to Legal Aid BC:
- Release of personal information (fillable PDF)
Once Legal Aid BC Intake receives the application, we will review it and follow up with the applicant (and/or you) as needed, and tell the applicant (and/or you) about our decision, usually within one week.
How to apply for a review of a legal aid decision
If an intake legal assistant tells your client that they’re not financially eligible for legal aid or that their case isn’t covered by legal aid, your client can ask for a review of a legal aid refusal decision.
