October 27 is Duty Counsel Day, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the important work of duty counsel lawyers across Canada.

Initiated by Canada’s legal aid associations, this day raises awareness of the vital support, guidance, and services duty counsel provide to people facing court without a lawyer by their side. Each year, duty counsel help thousands of people understand their rights and navigate complex legal matters.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all duty counsel lawyers for the work you do each day. Thank you for the expertise, care, and compassion you bring to your work, and for the difference you make in the lives of the people you represent. We are grateful for your dedication and for all that you contribute to our justice system.

Watch this short video featuring Talia Magder, LABC Manager of Criminal, Immigration, and Appeals, as she shares her thoughts on the important role of duty counsel.
