Legal Aid BC (LABC) held its first legal aid lawyer conference Essentials of a Legal Aid Practice on October 15 – 17, 2025, in Vancouver. Approximately 70 new lawyers attended the conference over two and a half days, both in person and online.
Funded by the Law Foundation of BC, this event was intended for lawyers with five years call or less looking to build or develop their legal aid practices.
LABC staff held sessions on frontline services, Truth and Reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion, and billing practices. Family Justice Services, the Lawyers Assistance Program of BC, Battered Women’s Support Services, and other organizations delivered additional presentations. The conference also featured discussion panels with experienced legal aid lawyers, focusing on supporting clients and building a legal aid practice.
Thank you to the speakers and senior counsel who donated their time and knowledge to provide excellent content for our new lawyers.
Conference attendees can claim up to 13 CPD credits on the Law Society of BC’s website.
