We recently updated the Lawyer Portal. The following is a summary of some of the changes that may affect you.
Search payments by invoice, contract, and client
- Payment records in the Lawyer Portal are now searchable by Invoice ID, contract numbers, or client name so that you can easily identify if an invoice has been paid and locate payments related to a specific client or contract. You can find this under Payments in the second tab labelled All Invoices Paid.
Duty counsel schedules link added to Lawyer Portal homepage
- Lawyers with a duty counsel contract will now see a link on the Lawyer Portal homepage at the top right. From here, you can see a summary of all your scheduled duty counsel shifts. This information was available previously, but we’ve made it easier for you to locate.
Invoices: Updated invoice notes wording
- We’ve updated wording in the invoice notes field.
- For additional tips on using the notes section, please see this September 2024 LAB article.
The notes are not read for all submitted invoices, however, they can be used to support your billing, when appropriate, and to avoid requests for more information if your invoice is flagged for assessment. Please do not include requests or respond to LABC inquiries via this notes function.
The invoice notes prompt has been updated as follows:
You can use this section to record notes about this invoice. LABC is not alerted to these notes, however, if your invoice is marked for review, LABC can consider them in assessing your invoice. If LABC has communicated billing instructions that relate to this invoice please indicate them here.
Examples of when we recommend using invoice notes:
- When you bill more than one NTR on the same information, it’s flagged as a potential duplicate. Providing details on why you are billing another NTR (e.g. for a breach of CSO) prevents us from needing to contact you.
- When you bill two units of travel fees in lieu of a service, indicate in the notes the purpose of travel, the nature of court proceeding, and a brief update.
- Provide dates for accommodation and airfare.
- When attendance hours on a specific service date exceeds seven hours, provide an explanation.
As always, you can also continue to use this section for your own notes.
