The Society for Children and Youth of BC (SCYBC) has implemented an Early Intervention Program (EIP) to bring children’s voices into the family law process at an early stage.
A lawyer from SCYBC will act as “children’s duty counsel” to meet with a child to:
- Provide legal information about their right to be heard.
- Explain the different options for participation.
- Advise parents and/or the court on the child’s preferred method of participation.
Parties can complete an intake form if there is mutual agreement from both parties or a judicial referral for the program. The EIP is initially being launched at the Victoria, Robson Square (Vancouver), Kelowna, and Kamloops Provincial Court registries.
