Society for Children and Youth of BC launches Early Intervention Program

Woman talking to child

The Society for Children and Youth of BC (SCYBC) has implemented an Early Intervention Program (EIP) to bring children’s voices into the family law process at an early stage.

A lawyer from SCYBC will act as children’s duty counsel” to meet with a child to:

  1. Provide legal information about their right to be heard.
  2. Explain the different options for participation.
  3. Advise parents and/or the court on the child’s preferred method of participation.

Parties can complete an intake form if there is mutual agreement from both parties or a judicial referral for the program. The EIP is initially being launched at the Victoria, Robson Square (Vancouver), Kelowna, and Kamloops Provincial Court registries.

For more information about the EIP Program, including the intake form, see scyofbc.org/early-intervention
