Temporary intake pause: Drug Treatment Court of Vancouver

Graphic of computer screen on pause

The Office of the Chief Judge at the Drug Treatment Court of Vancouver (DTCV) recently issued a notice of temporary pause for new intakes at the court, effective March 4, 2026. Government ministries and agencies are currently reviewing the programs that support specialized courts in downtown Vancouver, and DTCV is included in this review. This pause is meant to support a careful and coordinated process that aligns with the review’s first phase, which is expected to conclude in June 2026.

In recent years, DTCV has seen a declining caseload, and while the needs of those in the program have become more complex, the roles of justice, health, and community partners have continued to evolve. The pause will allow all partners to focus on supporting current participants to stabilize and make progress in the program while the review is conducted.

DTCV remains an important part of both the justice and treatment systems. More information will be shared as the review moves forward and decisions are made about next steps.
