Lawyer Bursary Program update

Due to current capacity constraints, we’re no longer able to accept new applicants to the Lawyer Bursary Program this year.

We understand this program has been a valuable support, and we appreciate your continued commitment to serving legal aid clients. In the meantime, we continue to offer a range of other resources and supports for lawyers, including:

  • Access to mentors: LABC provides a lawyer mentoring program for junior lawyers taking legal aid cases.
  • Access to a bursary for certification to become a mediator in family law. We offer bursaries for lawyers taking legal aid family files to attend the necessary CLEBC courses to certify as a family law mediator, including 80 hours of approved mediation skills training and 14 hours of approved training in family violence.
  • LABC and the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers provide access to support for articling student positions at law firms.
  • LABC recently posted four internal articling positions: one in Kamloops, one in Victoria, and two in Prince George.
  • Fall Legal Aid Conference (October 15 – 17, 2025): How to Manage a Legal Aid Practice for lawyers with less than a five-year call.
  • Legal Aid Connect Conference (November 2025). Dates and locations to be announced. CPD credits will be available.

If capacity becomes available, we’ll invite you to participate in bursary courses through the Legal Aid Brief, the Lawyer Portal, and the LABC corporate website.
